- Simple DirectMedia Layer (SDL) is a cross-platform multimedia library designed to provide low level access to audio, keyboard, mouse, joystick, 3D hardware via OpenGL, and 2D video framebuffer.
- Blender is the first and only fully integrated 3D graphics creation suite allowing modeling, animation, rendering, post-production, realtime interactive 3D and game creation and playback with cross-platform compatibility - all in one tidy, easily and free downloadable package!
- Mesa is a 3-D graphics library with an API which is very similar to that of OpenGL.
- The Persistence of Vision Raytracer (povray) is a high-quality, totally free tool for creating stunning three-dimensional graphics. It is available in official versions for Windows, Mac OS/Mac OS X and i86 Linux.

Stratagus ( was FreeCraft, inline of WarCraft ) is a free cross-platform real-time strategy gaming engine. It includes support for playing over the internet/LAN, or playing a computer opponent. The engine is configurable and can be used to create games with a wide-range of features specific to your needs. See the data sets page for a list of current games using the stratagus engine.
This engine is also uses SDL. - Invasion - Battle of Survival is a real-time strategy game using the Stratagus game engine.
- Boson is an OpenGL real-time strategy game, with the feeling of Command&Conquer(tm) or StarCraft(tm). It is designed to run on Unix (Linux) computers, and is built on top of the KDE, Qt and kdegames libraries.
- FreeCNC, the SDL-rewrite of the classical real time strategy hit Command & Conquer.
