Yesterday night , I formatted my laptop HDD. Installed WinXP Pro ( Sorry , probably it will take one more year for me to completely switch over to GNU/Linux system).
But I have to decided to use mostly Free software ( Free as in Freedom). I chose the following software. List grows eventually.
- Editor : Emacs I Know most my time is spent in editor. So after hunting for good editor for 2 hours , I have decided to go with “EMACS” . Because when I switch to GNU/Linux system , hopefully my transition is smooth. while looking for help to setup EMACS and related tools on windows, I found sites very helpful :
Download from : http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/windows/emacs/
- Browser: MozillaFireBird I have been looking for good browser for a while. I think this time I found one. MozillaFireBird. Very interesting and impressive features
. I decided to try it out, umm.. dynamite almost what I was looking for. Most intersting part is you don’t have to install it, just unzip , click and run ( this feature is my personal choice after tabbed browsing).
- Archive/Compression Utility: 7-Zip Searched for compression utility in sourceforge.net and I felt lucky ( in Google Terms: First Link).
